About ASAE
Mission
Described as the "association for association executives," ASAEs
core purpose is to advance the value of voluntary associations to society and
to support the professionalism of the individuals who lead them.
Brief History
ASAE was founded in 1920 as the American Trade Association Executives, with
67 charter members. Today, ASAE has more than 25,000 individual members who
manage leading trade, professional, and philanthropic associations, representing
more than 10,000 associations serving more than 287 million people and companies
worldwide. ASAE also represents individuals who work for companies that offer
products and services to the association community.
Headquartered in Washington, DC, ASAE has a full-time staff of more than 140
under the leadership of President and CEO John H. Graham IV.
Types of members
There are primarily two types of ASAE members: association executives and associates
(suppliers). All members join professional-interest sections that relate to
their job responsibilities. Sections include:
- executive management
- chapter relations
- communication
- education
- finance and administration
- government relations
- international
- legal
- marketing
- meetings and expositions
- membership
- technology, and
- association management company
